What I Love About Online Therapy in Oklahoma

There’s been a lot of talk and research about the benefits of online therapy. Many articles highlight the flexibility, accessibility, and convenience of virtual sessions. I wanted to share the more personal reasons why online therapy in Oklahoma has been such a good fit for both me and the people I work with. These are the little things that have made a big impact in how I show up as a therapist.

The Driving Factor

The lack of driving is one of the most common perks mentioned when it comes to online therapy. But honestly, I don’t we talk about the impact it has enough. This is especially true for my practice as I specialize in working with anxiety. And let me tell you driving anxiety, it’s more common than most people talk about.

In my work, it’s incredibly common for clients to arrive way too early to in-person sessions routinely, speed over on their way for fear of being late and stressing out when they get stuck behind a train. That pre-session stress often lingers into the appointment. It’s often rare that these clients give themselves space on their own to decompress before going into therapy. It’s much less likely that decompression with happen wehn returning to whatever else their day brings. With online therapy in Oklahoma, that whole dynamic shifts. Clients can log in from their own space—no commute, no parking, no icy roads or rainstorms to navigate.

And from a scheduling standpoint? Snowy days used to throw a wrench into the week. Now, unless the internet is down, therapy goes on as planned. No frantic calls to reschedule, no juggling office hours. No one is in their own home trying to be their own meteorologist trying to predict how drivable conditions are there is just the comfort of showing up from where you are.

Energy Management and the Magic of In-Between Moments

Another huge change I’ve noticed with online therapy in Oklahoma is how much smoother my own energy transitions feel between sessions. In a traditional office setting, even if I have breaks between clients, I’m still… well, at work. There’s only so much I can do to reset or recharge in that space.

But in my home office, things are different. I’ve set up my space not just for the people I meet with, but for me too. Leaving my yoga mat out so that I can flow through a quick vinyasa between sessions, so cool. I can make tea in my own kitchen. I can step outside for a breath of fresh air and check in with my pup, Tansy. Tansy loves this by the way! It’s possible you’d see her sitting on the couch during sessions. These small acts help me regulate and recenter throughout the day in a way that’s hard to replicate in an external office.

This isn’t to say I haven’t loved my time in-person with my clients. However, I also cannot deny the impact of having access to the tools that help me stay grounded even more. This ultimately allows me to show up more fully for the people I work with.

Seeing People in Their Own Space

One of the most beautiful things about online therapy in Oklahoma is getting a glimpse into the lives of the people I work with in a way I never could in an office. I’ve met countless pets, seen favorite art on walls, and watched as clients curled up with a favorite blanket during a tough moment. These details matter. They tell stories words can’t always express.

In my work as an experiential therapist meaning that I believe experiencing and experiences that happen in the present are where live changing magic occur. It’s what’s lead me to receive training in somatic practices, breathwork, mindfulness and ultimately to certification in Brainspotting. But these are all topics for a different time. This does mean however that the experiential playground so to speak opens up to a new level when seeing client’s in their own space.

For example one: The comfort of pets. It has been incredible to witness those I work with receive comfort from their furry companions during therapy. As someone who loves dogs and is super allergic to cats, I’ve gotten to see many more pets online. I watched cats curl up in laps mid-session and seen dogs provide quiet, grounding presence. I’ve also seen pets rescue clients by providing a distraction when the therapy topics get tough. It’s been so sweet and so powerful to witness those moments, especially when working with anxiety. These little cuties get to become a part of the therapeutic process.

There’s Just More You

Therapy is about connection, and connection deepens when we share space. Being able to see someone in their “natural environment” adds a layer to the work that’s hard to describe. As someone trained in experiential therapy, I find that the cues and context from a client’s space often offer insight that might not come through in words alone. You see things differently. You feel things differently.

That kind of authenticity in who you are and where you are is what makes online therapy in Oklahoma such a special experience for so many people.

Wrapping It All Up

So those are a few of the reasons I love the online space and why online therapy in Oklahoma has become such a meaningful part of my practice. Whether it’s the freedom from the commute, the ability to recharge between sessions, or the privilege of witnessing real life as it’s lived, this way of connecting has offered so not just for me, but for the people I serve.
