Taking charge of the home office

3 items to consider implementing

The space, furniture and accessories of your home office space are likely limited in some way. It’s okay to notice that though there are perks to working from home it also poses it’s own challenges. I’ve came up with a list of 3 things that can help you take better care of yourself while you work from home.

1. How enjoyable is your home office?

Enjoyable and work are not often seen together and the idea of it may seem foreign. However as humans we tend to be drawn towards enjoyable. What would allow you to delight more in this at home space?

Examples:

  • Noise canceling headphones so that you feel more focused
  • A curated playlist of your “work” tunes
  • A lit candle
  • Your favorite writing utensils

2. How easily can you take breaks?

Taking breaks is likely not the first thing that comes to mind when you think about work but it’s important to have a home office space that allows you to get access to what you need. When breaks aren’t accessible it is more likely that you will skip them entirely and stay rooted to the same spot until the “work day” is over.

Examples:

  • Snacks that are by your workspace so that you don’t skip out on nourishing yourself
  • A rolled out yoga mat so that you can pause for a quick flow or meditation
  • An open window so you can look outside and maybe even get some sun

3. How are you disconnecting from work?

Given that your work has moved into your home the drive that may have allowed you to disconnect and move away from work responsibilities is now gone however transitioning away from your “work mindset” still needs to happen. Perhaps consider having an “end of work” ritual that allows you to put away work related items and move into home life.

Examples:

  • Practice closing, turning off and storing all work related items.
  • Use a notepad to write down items that will be addressed tomorrow
  • Take a walk outside before engaging with others or attending to home responsibilities

I hope you take a moment to identify how you can create a more enjoyable space, take breaks throughout your work day and appropriately transition away from work.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope this helps you as you take your own powerful and transformative journey. Per usual take what fits for you, leave what does not, and join me next time. Until then let’s stay social 🙂
