Unlocking Wellness: A Guide to Quality Counseling in Edmond

Feeling overwhelmed by the number of therapists in Edmond, Oklahoma? Here are 3 ways to help you find the right counseling services.

While Edmond, OK is generally considered a safe place to live, work and raise a family and boasts of a being a small town with access to the big city doesn’t mean that life here is without it’s issues.  We all need support from time to time. If you’re looking for counseling in Edmond than I’d like to help you find someone who can help.

The Search for counseling in Edmond, OK

It is easy to get overwhelmed by the endless bios that come up of therapists in the area. You have likely combed through many profiles unsure of what you are looking for and who might be able to help. You are wanting counseling right now! It’s frustrating not to know how to get the help you need. You can become exhausted before you’ve found someone you can trust to help you get the support you’ve been looking for. I want to help facilitate this search for you and hopefully make the move towards counseling a bit easier.

In case you missed 👉 What is therapy?

#1. Make a list of 5 therapists that stood out to you when you did your online search.

You don’t have to know why they stood out just know that they did. Pull up their profiles all at the same time so that you can get a good look at who they are and what they offer. You don’t have to have read over all their information yet, as that tends to get overwhelming, you can go just by their profile picture, intro video or the short bio they wrote out.

#2. Identify quick eliminator

Now that you have 5 therapist to look at more closely here are 3 things that you can look at on their website or online profile as you would find on Psychology Today. If you can’t easily find out the information below then you get to decide if that is “cause for elimination” or if you want to reach out and find out.

– Location: Are they located in a place that you can reasonably get to? After all it won’t make much sense to have a therapist located on the other side of town as that tends to make attending sessions more difficult.

-In-person & Online: Do they meet only in person? only online? both? What is your preference and do they offer that.

-Age: Are you looking for counseling for an adult, kid, adolescent, family or couples. Does the therapist see that age?

#3. Read more about what they offer

Now you can take a closer look at what they are saying. As you read through about what they do and who they help do you feel seen? One of the biggest predictors of positive outcomes in therapy is the relationship between you and the therapist so it’s important that you get a sense that you can approach this person and let them support.

#4 Trust your gut

Listen to yourself as you peruse these 5 therapist you picked out. Even if you don’t understand what is putting you off or what is creating a desire to reach out let yourself trust in that gut feeling.

#5 Reach out

You heard me, let yourself pick at least one therapist from your list and reach out.  Send out an email, give them a call or book a consult. Just because you picked one therapist does not mean that you have to work with them. All it means is that you are giving yourself permission to reach for support and take another step in your transformative journey. If things align schedule and if they don’t ask them for a referral to someone they think could help.
