#1 Truth: Counseling is for any time.

We can get it in our heads that we are not struggling enough to go to counseling. I’m here to tell you that counseling is for everyone!  Anyone who is willing and interested in taking care of their mental and emotional health. Just as you go to the dentist for a cleaning and to improve your dental health, counseling is a way to check in on your health too.

#2 Truth: Counseling is Collaborative.

As we go about in the world we often feel alone and like we are trying to find solutions to a problem by ourselves. Once you start counseling, you and I are creating a team. We work together to better understand what you need. I encourage your feedback on how things are going and point out ideas that I think could help. We co-create a space that allows you to be supported to try new things and explore how you can heal and grow.

#3 Truth: Counseling is about the Bad but also the Good.

We often think of counseling as a place where we only talk about things that aren’t going well or a space to dump negative experiences. There is some truth to that but for my practice it is also a place of celebration. I delight in hearing about my clients taking brave steps to try new things even when they don’t go as expected. Together we work on acknowledging and celebrating this part of them that is learning, growing and taking risks.

#4 Truth: Counseling is a sign of growth

It is tempting to get caught up in a loop of shame or guilt in regards to attending therapy.  I’m here to tell you that I get those feels. I also believe  that one of the biggest risks we take as humans is in our ability to share our stories and be seen for who we are.  Counseling is a way to do that. Reaching out is not easy.

#5 Truth: Counseling is for you.

Now, no I’m not here to guarantee that counseling will provide you with everything you need!  However, when you start your counseling journey it is just that, YOURS. In my practice, I take each client on their very own experience, from the exercises we do together to the way we structure your sessions. Those that work with me, have my undivided attention. I work hard to tailor the experience to fit you, your interests and use metaphors that you can relate to. It’s a journey only you can go on made for your unique needs and wants for your life.
